Warning and Complications

The following apply to dermal filler, PRP, Kybella and all other injectables.

Prior to your Appointment:

  • We recommend you void taking allergy medication, aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, perception blood thinners, fish oil, Gingko Biloba , St. John’s Wort and high doses of vitamin E for at least 7-10 days before your appointment, unless medically necessary.

  • To help  prevent any discomfort you may take Tylenol if you feel its necessary.

  • If you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) make sure you start taking your prescribed anti-viral 72 hours prior to your injection appointment. We are able to call you in this medication if you do not already have a prescription.

  • Avoid all dental procedures (including cleaning) 2 weeks pre procedure

  • Please come to your appointment with a clean face free of makeup and heavy creams. If needed, arrive early and we will provide facial cleanser for you to cleanse your face prior to your appointment.

  • Eat a small meal or a snack before your appointment to avoid a drop in blood sugar during and following your service.

Following your Appointment:

With all filler injections there is a risk of a vascular occlusion or pressure occlusion. This complication is extremely rare and very serious if left untreated. After every injection appointment make sure to watch for the warning signs and call Timeless Laser and/or Erica right away if one presents in the following forms…

-Extreme Swelling

-Extreme Bruising

-Grey or White Spots
-Extreme Pain

-Purple Polka dots

-Pustules

-If something other than those listed above occurs and you have concerns, please reach out.

Another rare and possible complication is a late onset nodule. This can happen between 1-7 months post injection and is caused by an unrelated virus attacking the filler. Please call Timeless Laser and/or Erica if you feel this is happening and an anti-viral will be prescribed. The third complication and more commonly seen is an outbreak of herpes simplex (cold sores), especially when treating the lips or mouth area. If you are prone to this virus, we recommend you take prophylactic starting 72 hours prior to your scheduled injection procedure to prevent an outbreak, as it can affect the way the filler settles and the outcome of your results. Blisters are not a normal part of the healing process. Please contact us so we can address any blistering immediately.
***Our medical director can call you in a prescription into your pharmacy prior to your appointment or after if you’re seeing signs of any herpes breakout.

Exercise
For superficial filler, including but not limited to lips, please do not work out or get your heart rate up for 24 hours. For filler on the bone including nose filler, jaw and cheeks,  please avoid raising your heart rate and working out for a minimum of 72 hours post procedure.

Bruising
Bruising is completely normal after filler and in the worst cases can take up to a month to heal. Oral and topical arnica may be taken to shorten the duration of the bruise. Bruising after under eye filler is rare however you can end up with a bruise that looks like a black eye for up to a. month.
**We do have oral arnica available for purchase if you are interested. Topical Arnica can be purchased at your local drug store.

Swelling
Swelling is completely normal after dermal filler and other injections. There may appear to be lumps where the filler was injected, but rest assure they will soften as soon as all of the swelling has resolved. In some areas such as the nose or chin, swelling may make the area look “round” and that can last up to a month, but rest assure it will “sharpen” back out when swelling has resolved.

Ice
Placing ice cubes in a plastic bag of water and gently holding it to the area that was treated, can help with swelling and tenderness. ***Do not EVER place ice directly on the skin.

Please keep in mind alcohol before and after your procedure will increase the likelihood of swelling and bruising. We do not recommend consuming alcohol for 24 hours pre or post treatment.

Other than what has been previously mentioned in this document, you do not need to do anything to prepare for your dermal filler appointment. For optimal healing and to decrease risk of bruising and inflammation or excessive swelling, we recommend you avoid alcohol and blood thinners of any kind for 24 hour prior to your appointment.

You can never be too safe when it comes to your skin, so NEVER hesitate to send a picture, call or text us if you have any questions EVEN AFTER BUSINESS HOURS. That’s what we’re here for.

In the case of an emergency if it pertinent you contact our clinic and not your own medical personal. We always have a Dr. on call. In the rare case of an occlusion, it is very important we see you in our clinic to resolve this issue.

NEUROTOXIN PRE & POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS

What are neurotoxins? Neurotoxins, also known as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are injectable solutions that temporarily block nerve receptors in the muscle, preventing lines and wrinkles from forming. They can be used to treat muscle stiffness, muscle spasms, excessive sweating, and overactive bladder.

Prior to your Appointment :

  • We recommend you void taking aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Ginko Biloba, St. John’s Wort and high doses of vitamin E for 7-10 days prior to procedure, as these may cause increase risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s). Regular multi-vitamin and Tylenol® is permitted.

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to procedure as this can increase the risk for bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s).

  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.

  • Sunburn skin is difficult to treat so avoid getting a sunburn prior to your treatment

  • Please come to your appointment with a clean face free of makeup and heavy creams.

  • Eat a small meal or a snack before your appointment. This will help keep your blood sugar level and prevent nausea secondary to an injection.

Following your Appointment:

  • Keep in mind the results of your treatment takes 7-14 days to take full effect.  It takes time for the product to expand in your muscle and resulting in the loss of muscle movement to the treated area.During this time the area may look uneven and change. It is important to wait the full 7-10 days before assessing the final result.

  • Avoid touching or rubbing the area, wearing a hat, or exercise and sweating for the remainder of the day and ABSOLUTELY no lying down for 4 hours after treatment.

  • There can be a slight chance of bruising at the treated site, this is temporary. Be assured that any tiny bumps, discomfort, mild headache or visible marks will go away. It’s knows that Dysport causes a little more discomfort than Botox or Xeomin and this is normal and will subside.

  • Avoid any type of facial, microdermabrasion, or massage for 2-3 days after treatment.

  • Avoid Ibuprofen, Advil or Motrin, Tylenol is acceptable to take if experiencing discomfort.

  • All cosmetic neurotoxin is a temporary procedure and at first, you may find that your treatment results will last approximately 3 months. We recommend you maintain your treatment appointments with the frequency recommended by your clinician, for optimal results.

  • Your satisfaction is important to us! We would like you to return to the office in 10 days for a follow-up or as we call it a ‘Perfection Check” assessment appointment, especially after your first treatment. This will ensure we are able to see how your facial muscles react to your treatment. If you require additional product to fine-tune/adjust your treatment results there will be additional charges at the regular rate.
